Resistor in Series

When resistor are connect in series .Here the same current passed through all of them, they are said to be in series.

Each resistor has a voltage drop across it given by Ohm's law;

                                       E1 = IR1 ; E2 = IR2 ; E3 = IR3

The total drop is,
                                       E = E1 + E2 + E3 = I (R1 + R2 + R3 )

The total power;
                                        P = EI

  • The same current flow though all the resistance.
  • For each resistance there will be a voltage drop according to ohm's law.
  • The sum of the voltage drops will be equal to the applied voltage.
